FAQ
What happens if I fly without a Pilot License?
There is a risk of severe fines of up to 50,000 euros, as the unauthorized operation of drones is considered a significant risk for air traffic and security in general. In the most serious cases, you could be sent to prison.
Does the Operator ID have to be physically attached to the drone?
Yes, the Operator ID should be printed and attached to the drone. We provide a properly formatted tag that also includes a machine-readable QRCode with details of the registration.
Is the Wallet Pass a legally valid form of the license?
The Pilot License must be carried with you on every drone flight. From a legal point of view, it does not matter in which form the document is presented - as long as the QR code is machine-readable. This means that the drone license can be as a wallet pass on the smartphone. We also add a link on the wallet pass to the original document, so you can always use the original document if the authority questioning debates about the legitimacy of the wallet pass.
How long do I need to register with the National Aviation Authority and receive an Operator ID?
The registration at the National Aviation Authority varies by country. Still, in our experience doing the process in multiple countries, the registration is at the moment free in all countries and takes about 2 minutes to finish. The emission of your Operator ID might take up to a few days.
How long do I need to pass the fundamental knowledge exam with the National Aviation Authority and have a Pilot License/ID?
After completing the registration, you have to pass a basic knowledge exam to receive a Pilot ID and a PDF representing a Pilot License. We recommend reading the material provided by the country's National Aviation Authority. For the English language, we recommend the Drone Code material available at https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/drone-code. You should be ready to pass the exam after investing around 60 minutes in reading the material. The exam consists of 40 questions, and you have to answer at least 30 questions right. You can try as many times as you want, so do not be afraid to try it. Most of the questions, like a driver's license, can be easily interpreted.
